Brynn Bemis is our March female Member of the Month. She came to enduraLAB by way of ClassPass, and we are thrilled that she decided to stay and become a member of our community. Brynn is such a dynamic athlete and she definitely raises the bar during class. She never cowers from a good set of burpees or multiple rounds of wall balls. Her favorite lift? The power clean. She advises newcomers to reach out for help when you need it and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What brought you to enduraLAB in the first place? I commute to Dallas for work, and ClassPass made it easy to get in a workout with my busy schedule. I also like workouts that combine circuit training with weight lifting, so the LAB was a perfect fit. It also caught my eye because we only live three blocks away!
What was your first impression? How has that changed? My first impression was that the LAB was a high energy gym, with knowledgeable coaches and really nice equipment. That has been affirmed during my short time as a member. Additionally I have learned that there is a solid community, with members who like to push each other to be the best we all can be. I just love it!
What was your first breakthrough moment? Recently we did an rowing workout where I realized that I have shaved about 10 seconds off of my average 500 meter pace. It really hit me that I am finally getting back into shape!
What are your current goals at the LAB? I am really trying to focus on my endurance. To do that, I want to get to the gym consistently. If I could make it 5 to 6 days a week I would be pretty happy with myself.
What’s your favorite enduraLAB memory? Well, I’ve only been a member for two months so I don’t have many yet. Not necessarily a favorite, but most memorable, is probably Endy taking me out on a run. I was totally fine, and laugh pretty hard about it when I look back on the moment. I love dogs so I am so glad we have a gym dog that is so excited to be a part of the workouts!!!
What advice do you have for anyone thinking about starting at enduraLAB?Don’t be intimidated! The workouts are tough, and oftentimes brand new to people. Everyone has their own starting points, and the LAB is a great place to learn and build your fitness. Just reach out for help when you need it and don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’ll find that even those people that have been members forever have plenty of weaknesses!
What is your favorite movement/lift? Least favorite? My favorite lift is the power clean. My form could use some work, but I can move quite a bit of weight at the clean. As far as movements/workouts, it is a tie between burpees, box jumps and wall balls. I love them because they really get your heart rate going. My least favorite is by far the snatch.
Dogs/Cats? DOGS. We just welcomed little Remington (Remi) puppy to our family!! She is the greatest.
Favorite cheat meal? I have several! The top two are pizza and french fries. I reach for salty.
Where did you go to college? I received my undergrad from Washington State University where I played soccer and basketball. GO COUGS!! I went to law school at Marquette University. But once a coug, always a coug.
Kyle Russo is our male Member of the Month for March. He was drawn to the LAB because our members are here to work. He also enjoys the community, and proudly announces that he has lost 15 pounds since joining just a few short months ago. His advice to newcomers is to give the Saturday classes a try. The team workouts are fantastic and they'll make you want to get up early on a weekend and sweat!
What brought you to enduraLAB in the first place? Brynn went to the LAB on ClassPass and raved about the facility, and how the people in the gym were there to work. My last gym had a lot of members who complained about the workouts and then found a way to mess around during class, which is just not me. You do not see that at the LAB, which is my favorite thing about the community.
What was your first impression? How has that changed? I came on a Saturday and the workout was super tough (maybe I was a little out of shape, but I am going with it was extra tough). I walked in and people were visiting while gearing up for the workout, but as soon as it was time to work everyone was ready to roll. That has not changed and I love it.
What was your first breakthrough moment? Since joining the LAB I have lost almost 15 pounds while still maintaining my strength. I really enjoy the programming and it works if you just show up and keep chipping away at it.
What are your current goals at the LAB? My current goal is to get better at the longer workouts and really get my endurance up in order to complete a 5K race this summer.
What’s your favorite enduraLAB memory? A few Saturdays ago we had a team workout where everyone in my group was really pushing and encouraging one another. What a great atmosphere, and I have not been pushed that hard by teammates since playing ball as an undergrad. This is what gets me out of bed on a Saturday morning and keeps me coming back.
What advice do you have for anyone thinking about starting at enduraLAB? Come on a Saturday when most of the community is there, feel the energy of the gym. You will come back.
What is your favorite movement/lift? Least favorite? My favorite movement is the power clean. The clean is a total body movement therefore you cannot fake it. My least favorite movement is the dreaded burpee. I played football for almost 20 years and each and every year the burpee was was served up as punishment. Needless to say, I harbor a deep disdain for that movement.
Dogs/Cats? Dogs. We just picked up our little Remi. She will be up at the gym on Saturdays so do not hesitate to say hello to her. She loves people and being held.
Favorite cheat meal? The Fredburger with cheese and fries.
Where did you go to college? I played football in college. I originally signed to Wake Forest University but my coach left my freshmen year. I was told to find a new place where I fit the scheme better. I finished football and undergrad at Southern Illinois University. I then attended Marquette Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
