What brought you to enduraLAB?
My dear friend Kelly told me about EL years ago and I joined for a short season, but switched to yoga and running. I stayed friends with Isis on FB and continued to see all the fun that I was missing at EL! There are so many fun opportunities, and such a great community that I just had to come back, and I am so glad I did!
What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB?
Running, walking and hot yoga! I never lifted weights before EL, so this was a totally different experience for me!
What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB?
I love what is written on the wall at EL… “If it’s important, do it every day!” So, I would definitely say that consistency has been one of the biggest healthy changes that I have made. It has truly been so fun to meet and make friends here, so I’ve enjoyed coming to the lab with more consistency. Honestly, the biggest healthy change for me has been nutrition and I was very late to the game on this! Isis tried to tell me:) Within the last month, God has changed my heart concerning nutrition and is showing me how to care for myself in a more balanced and healthy way. Before I performed to eat, and now I eat to perform. This is all super new, and I’m excited to see what God does, and how my performance increases!
Tell us what you do outside of the LAB?
Outside of EL, I love to hike, cook, and have people in our home. I love to play games, and to dance! Studio 80 is just about as good as it gets! We just joined The Paradox church! I love, love Sundays and all things Paradox!
How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little.
Of course, I am a lot stronger, but I think I have really grown emotionally as well! My favorite way of telling people about EL is by saying “It’s the best place to be the worst!” At EL, I am surrounded by an amazing community of very impressive athletes! Strong, dedicated, determined, focused, disciplined, and high achieving are all words that I would use to describe the other athletes at EL! I have tremendous admiration and respect for each of them in unique ways. All are there to work hard and achieve lofty goals. In the midst of their hard work, success, and super impressive performance, they don’t forget to encourage me, in my tiny triumphs. I always get a smile, a high five, hugs, or words of encouragement when I’m at EL. Even though my numbers will never be what theirs are, I so appreciate celebrating them and so appreciate the way they all care for and welcome me! It’s an amazing feeling to walk into EL and feel great just for showing up! It really is the BEST place to be the worst!
What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months?
I don’t have an actual goal set for myself. However, if I fast forward 6 months, I would like to have the nutrition game all squared away and settled. I would love to hike a 14er, and enjoy some longer hikes as well!
What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program?
I really like every day at EL! Great workout, fun friends, and awesome music! That’s hard to beat!
What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB?
I would tell them to jump on in! It’s a great place to learn! EL is so inclusive and fun! I would also tell them to listen to the coaches! I appreciate the specific instructions for each and every exercise so I don’t get hurt, and so that I can receive the most benefit from the exercise. EL is unique in that there is so much science and research behind the programming! I really appreciate how carefully the coaches watch and guide me.
If we had a workout in honor of you, what would it be called and what would it consist of? Ohhhhhhh! I love a sumo deadlift! So, deadlifts, DB floor press, tuck ups, or Russian twists, and the SLAM BALL! I would name it “Till I Collapse!”
Favorite treat meal/restaurant in D/FW?
I like simple food, so it’s hard to beat Press Cafe, Tavern, and Pacific Table! However, I’m currently loving Quince! It’s beautiful, the food is amazing, AND… they have a DJ! My favorite restaurant is Georgie in Dallas! It’s beautiful, delicious, and it’s so fun to get all dressed up for a fun night in Dallas. My all-time favorite treat is egg custard pie. My sweet daddy made it every Thanksgiving! It’s a little slice of nostalgia for me!
Current read / podcast? I really don’t listen to many podcasts, I do listen to Tim Keller sermons. I think I would enjoy the science of Attia, Huberman, etc… but they are so long! I need a condensed version!
Honestly my favorite read right now is my Bible! I’m having more fun looking up different words to see what God says about the topic, it’s been really cool for me! Because I love running, I actually looked up “run” and “running”in the Bible to see what it said! Its been super fun and exciting! I’m also reading a book called Expecting Jesus, and it’s been amazing! I tried to read Attia’s new book Longevity and was super bored! Let me know if anyone wants it:)
Pump up song? Well, I do like Till I Collapse, and Pour Some Sugar on Me!
Any final words or thoughts?
Lee and Isis, thank you for having the courage to walk into your dream… it surely has been a blessing to so many! I would also like to thank every single person at EL for their commitment and encouragement! It’s contagious! I’m humbled, and so deeply thankful to have a place to get stronger physically, emotionally, nutritionally, and spiritually! It’s a true gift to see this community welcome and encourage one another! If it’s good for you… do it every day! EL has been so good for me!
