Meet June Member of the Month, Meg Smith

Meg came to enduraLAB to learn and find something that would produce longer lasting results. She was and still is an athlete but really didn't enjoy "working out" per say. In the past she had tried fad exercise routines and diets and had seen quick changes, though nothing stuck. Coming to enduraLAB, she opened her mind, got uncomfortable for awhile, came consistently and started to enjoy the process. Read more to see all the things she is doing now and how she is now loving her fitness routine!

What brought you to enduraLAB?

I was wanting to start strength training again. I did barre for over a year and never really got into it. Working out was more of a chore than something I enjoyed doing, then I found out about enduraLAB from some friends and it was exactly what I was looking for!

What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB?

Before enduraLAB, I did barre a few times a week and would go on walks, but I didn't have a consistent routine!

What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB?

Since joining, working out has become a consistent part of my routine. Even if I can't make it to the LAB, I make it a priority to move at some point every day. Moving and working out is not just something I feel like I have to do, but it's something I now really enjoy doing.

Tell us what you do outside of the LAB?

I love to play golf! I am in grad school so a lot of my time, outside of work and working out, is spent studying and reading. I also love to be social so spending time with friends is also a priority of mine!

How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little.

I have improved so much on the endurance side of fitness. I participated in the 2 mile progression endurance workouts this Spring and improved my 2 mile time by almost 4 minutes! In the first time trial, I had to walk in my second mile. Since I've started consistently running, I've been able to run almost 4 miles!

What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months?

I'm hoping to run a half marathon in December!

What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program?

Summer Shred has been a blast!

What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB?

Don't be intimidated no matter what fitness level you are at! The hardest part for me was just walking through the door but once I was here, everyone was so welcoming and helpful and guided me through everything and they will do the same for you! And stick to it! If you're consistent you'll see results and that is so rewarding.

If we had a workout in honor of you, what would it be called and what would it consist of?

Probably something with the bike!

Favorite treat meal/restaurant in D/FW?

Don Artimeo is one of the best restaurants I've been to! Highly recommend the fried cactus and guacamole.

Current read / podcast?

I love listening to podcasts about golf and the PGA tour. Reading lots of books for grad school these days, I just started Reason for God by Timothy Keller.

Pump up song?

Anything Lizzo

Any final words or thoughts?

If you're thinking about trying out enduraLAB, do it!! I was out of shape and had no idea how to use a barbell and here I am 10 months later still learning but loving being a part of this community!!
