Hometown: I grew up in Marietta, Georgia, just north Atlanta.
Degree: I earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.
Career: After college I accepted a job as a consultant with Arthur Andersen in New York. I had always wanted to live in Manhattan, and the job offer helped everything fall into place. I lived in the Meatpacking District (back when they still packed meat) and I couldn’t get enough of the city’s intense energy, diversity, food, urban lifestyle and constant hustle and bustle. I loved it!
I was in New York on September 11th, and six months later Andersen was indicted on obstruction of justice for their involvement with the Enron scandal. I decided the fast pace of the city was perhaps too fast for me, and relocated back to Dallas. Shortly after I returned to Texas, mutual friends introduced me to Tappan at a party at Joe T. Garcia’s. We’ve been married almost 13 years now and have three precious children.
New Year's Resolutions: January is the month of lofty self-improvement goals. To celebrate, Tappan and I had a dry January. I am so happy we did it. I feel like I’m 10 years younger. It’s a great way to start a new year!
Athletic Background: I grew up doing gymnastics and playing tennis. I was a high school cheerleader and a fierce intramural flag football player in college. After college, I started running. I ran my first marathon in 2003 and have continued to stay active since then with tennis, Pilates, strength training and chasing my kids.
Inspiration: I am inspired by our members -- specifically my 21 Day Challenge team! It is rare to see a random group of individuals come together and work cohesively to achieve such success. The participants were motivating, encouraging, uplifting and supportive. They pushed me and each other to reach our goals. I am so excited to take this momentum we have going and dive headfirst into the new enduraLAB Nutrition Program.
Motivation Technique: I strive to be an empathetic coach by listening and learning to understand how each client needs to be supported along their fitness journey. Whether they need a cheerleader, a drill sergeant or something in between, I try and meet them where they are, and elevate their fitness through positive reinforcement.
How did you find enduraLAB: I have never had a problem with motivating myself to get to the gym, or a hard time finding how to exercise. I have been to many gyms, studios, and bootcamps in Fort Worth. I came to enduraLAB several years ago out of curiosity. Although I was happy where I was, I kept hearing about the LAB and how great it was. I needed to see it for myself. I had never seen anything like it. Every other workout I had ever done was spontaneous. Whatever the coach had in mind that day. No planning, no progression, no thought went into writing the workouts. When I came to the LAB, I was able to see results because the programming was thoughtful, progressive, and challenging. My body changed, I was seeing positive results, and I loved it.
This past year, I was approaching the point where I could devote more time to working outside of the home, and I sat down with Lee to talk about my options. We decided that I should bring my love of nutrition, fitness and high energy to the LAB as a coach. I shadowed in the Spring of 2017, and began coaching classes and nutrition counseling for the LAB in May.
Certifications: I am certified in Precision Nutrition. I have completed the Fundamentals and Women’s Specialty certifications at Gym Jones and am currently working on my OPEX CCP certification.
Nutrition is really my passion. I started to learn about food and how to eat well when I did Weight Watchers 20 years ago. The program introduced me to the idea of eating whole foods. You can either have a piece of pizza for the day, or enjoy nutritious foods throughout the entire day and be satisfied. I love to read articles about nutrition and fitness in magazines, books and medical journals. I am constantly reading and researching to stay current on fitness and nutrition information.
Favorite Restaurant: Saint Emilion. I also love Pacific Table, Jazz Cafe, Joe T. Garcia’s and Mi Cocina (…. I love margaritas).
Favorite / Least Favorite Workouts: I enjoy a Chipper workout which combines a lot of different movements at high volume. Essentially it’s a long power endurance workout. My least favorite movement is the overhead squat.
Song: I love old country and classic/Southern Rock.
How do you maintain your great figure: Ha. I avoid white flour and sugar as much as possible. However, sugar is my weakness …. I love a good bowl of ice cream. Mmmm, I also love chips and queso. Have I already said margarita?
Sports Fan: I am a huge college football fan--specifically the ACC and SEC, but only the true southern teams. Sorry A&M fans.
Beach vs. Mountains: Mountains. Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of our favorite destinations.
Game: I’m addicted to Candy Crush. I’m on level 928!
