Meet Amy Davies, April Member of the Month

Amy had done yoga, big box gyms and cycle studios but wanted more. She has since done group classes, personal training, specialty programs and nutrition! She is not only a go getter, she’s a talented photographer and one of Formula 1’s biggest fans!

What brought you to enduraLAB?

I was so tired of gyms that didn't care about their members or facilities. Those whose business model was to rake money in from people who fail to cancel their memberships. I missed being part of a team and something bigger. After meeting the coaches here, I felt right at home. For all of the intimidating things we do here, the process or the coaching weren't.

What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB?

Mostly a yoga studio, but I had tried other gyms and cycling programs. None of them stuck.

What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB?

I eat way more veggies (Thanks, Isis!). While I'm always working on being more routine about my fitness, I never fear that I'm not coming back. I always know I'll be right back at the gym. I look forward to it.

Tell us what you do outside of the LAB?

By trade, I'm a Data Analyst (aka desk jockey). My passion is photography, art and crafts though. I love all things nature. I love to paddleboard, kayak, hike and just hang out on my deck soaking in nature as much as possible.

How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little.

I have been able to perform some weight lifting I never thought was possible for me. I still can't hang with the big boys and girls, but I'm super proud of what I've been able to accomplish in my time here. It only encourages me more.

What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months?

I'm super bad at goals, but if I had to choose, it would definitely be to workout in the gym 5 days a week and to start running again.

What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program?

I love the camaraderie of the Strength and Conditioning classes. No matter where we are in our fitness, it's a struggle for everyone and I love that.

What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB?

When I first started, I didn't track my workouts in SugarWOD. I TOTALLY regret that. Even if you think you're not strong enough or competitive enough to track, TRACK IT. To see the progress you make over time is just incredible and driving. Please learn from me and track everything.

If we had a workout in honor of you, what would it be called and what would it consist of?

I dislike skiing in real life (and the cold), but I love the SkiERG and summer! We would probably have to call it the Summer Sun Sweat & Ski. (I also really like alliteration)

Favorite treat meal/restaurant in D/FW?

Hatsayuki followed by a yummy donut from Hurts, next door.

Current read / podcast?

Book: Out and Back by Hillary Allen. She's a skyrunner that fell 150 feet down an exposed ridge and survived. It's about her struggle to not only walk but to actually run again. The mental toughness and her thought process is incredible.

Pump up song?

Don't Stop (Color on the Walls) - Foster the People. (The whole album Torches has been my workout jam for a decade now)

Any final words or thoughts?

Really just a huge THANK YOU to the coaches at Enduralab. Thank you for fostering such an amazing community, positive energy and endless activities to do. Your hard work and care really shows and as a member, I see you and appreciate you.
