Meet Ami Randel, May Member of the Month

Ami can be found frequently in the gym in her favorite "spot", foam rolling and stretching before and after class, and in the sauna/cold plunge - which ultimately leads to top spots on the leaderboard. She had the knowledge of lifts from being a former Crossfitter and Olympic lifter, but is now learning how to get stronger smarter and incorporate more recovery. Read more about her below!

What brought you to enduraLAB?

My husband has been at enduraLAB for 6-ish years. I was a CrossFit gal years ago and he encouraged me to come back and give it a try.

What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB?

Since a little before Covid, I have been Pelotoning and doing dumbbell workout videos at home.

What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB?

I would say, I have been prioritizing mobility and recovery. I tend to go pretty hard every workout (i’m a glutton for punishment) and without proper recovery, I am toast by the end of the week.

Tell us what you do outside of the LAB?

Well, juggling our kids and their schedules/activities is a full-time gig. I love the Lord and our church family and community take up a good chunk of our week.

How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little.

When I joined, I kind of feel like I was starting over in the strength department. From 2013-2018 I trained with an Olympic lifting coach and was pretty strong, so mostly riding my Peloton the past few years, I noticed I wasn’t as strong as I once was (obviously). I am gaining strength, but also making sure my form is correct and that I’m recovering well. I’m also not as young as I once was. 🫠

What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months?

I would love to be able to do a strict pull up again!

What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program?

Reboot! Cold plunging is awful and amazing.

What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB?

Take it easy! Strength and technique come with time.

If we had a workout in honor of you, what would it be called and what would it consist of?

Thriller

25 min AMRAP

25 cal bike

10 power cleans (heavy weight, but that you can cycle through unbroken)

15 up downs

Favorite treat meal/restaurant in D/FW?

Grace has a pretty amazing steak!

Current read / podcast?

I wish I was better about reading… mostly a Bible study, the Bible or whatever Podcast my husband tells me I should listen to or read. 🙃

Pump up song?

Andy Mineo - Been About It

Any final words or thoughts?

I love you guys! 🥹 It’s been fun jumping back in and meeting everyone.
