How to Pack a Ruck

Rucking is the latest and greatest craze at the LAB. Quite a few members have taken the leap and gotten their very own rucksack, and many are competing in the Dallas Star Marathon Course in October. We’ve been training for weeks to conquer this marathon, and we can’t wait to complete it!

Check out the list of required items you need in your ruck:

Ruck Plate (10# if you weigh less than 150 lbs., 20# if you’re over 150 lbs.)

Rucksack

Reflective Ruck Bands (or equivalent) on your rucksack

Headlamp and extra batteries

Smartphone with external battery or portable charger

Photo ID and $20 cash- just in case

Water

Masks (at least 2)

Hand Sanitizer and Wipes

Coach Lee carries a few more things in his ruck to make sure he is fully prepared for his race. See his list of “extras” below:

Pocketknife- just in case

First Aid Kit

Carabiner

JBL Bluetooth Speaker- When rucking 26.2+ miles, some tunes might make it a little more entertaining

Clean t-shirt and pair of socks

Food!- We recommend consuming 200-250 calories per hour, so pick something you’ll want when you’re tired (think PB&J, granola bar, Peanut M&Ms, etc.)
