It’s no question there are a multitude of health benefits to drinking water. It’s one of the simplest ways to improve digestion, flush out toxins, and help your body recover from everything you put it through. If drinking water is such an easy solution, why do so many of us have a hard time hitting an ideal amount each day? Why does drinking water sometimes seem like the absolute last thing you want to do? Speaking from personal experience, I can definitely feel the benefits when I increase my water consumption, but the hardest part is getting started and sticking to it long enough to make an impact. Here are 3 tips anyone can use to kick of 2023 with the new habit of drinking more water.
- You should absolutely go buy yourself a new water bottle. Not only does this give you something fun and new to drink out of, but an added bonus is getting a bottle with a straw. This makes drinking water easier than snapping your fingers and you’ll have no excuse to not drink up! You should also find a bottle that fits in your cup holder and purse so you can always have it with you. This is a sure fire way to increase your hydration every day.
- Keep a glass of water (or your new bottle!) by your bedside. This is an easy way to knock out a few ounces as you’re going to bed, if you wake up in the middle of the night, and to start your day. On this note, you should start each day with at least 8 ounces of water and not put anything else into your body until you get this water in. It’s amazing how this simple task can give your body the kick start it needs to take on the day!
- Set benchmarks for your water consumption throughout the day. First, you should have a goal of how many ounces you want to drink per day. Then break it down by the hour, activity, or some other metric. For example, you could break your day into quarters and make sure you get a fourth of your water consumption for the day in during each quarter. Or, if you like to drink coffee throughout the day, aim to getin a glass of water in between each cup of coffee. These are manageable ways to get all of your ounces in without having to chug at the end of the day, use your creativity and find a water routine that works for you!
Setting a healthy goal for daily water consumption is one thing, actually drinking the water is a whole other feat. Try these tricks for 30 days and see how many days you can meet your goal, I promise you will feel the benefits!
